WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 9, 2018) – Rollins managed their third draw in four games, facing off against No. 5 Columbus State Sunday morning. The Tars and Cougars battled for 110 minutes, but could not be separated; the match ending 1-1. Rollins moves to 1-0-3 on the year while Columbus State end the day at 3-0-1.
Rollins senior midfielder Kiera McMeekan found the net for the Tars. She was assisted by Jill Richards and Chynna McGirt. Kelly Rowswell made only one save, but was steady cutting out Cougar crosses all game. Rachael Sweigard tallied for Columbus State, with Kimmy Edgeworth registering the helper.
The Tars got on the board first, with McMeekan's score coming in just the 16th minute. Richards sent in a dangerous corner kick, which McGirt headed on to the back post, into the path of a hard charging McMeekan, who was able to power her header past the keeper. The Cougars would equalize in the 65th minute when Sweigard headed the Edgeworth cross off the post in to the goal. Rollins was unable to convert a penalty kick with just over two minutes to play, and the game went to overtime. Columbus State controlled possession in the extra frames, but the Rollins defense turned away every attempt, as the match ended 1-1.
Rollins will return to action on Wednesday, September 12 at 5 p.m. The Tars will close out non-conference action against the Webber Warriors at Barker Family Stadium.
