MELBOURNE, Fla. (September 10, 2018) – Rollins goalkeeper Kelly Rowswell picked up her first Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week Award, it was announced Monday. This is the third weekly honor of the junior's career.
The Tars picked up their first win of the year on Friday, handily defeating the Tusculum Pioneers, 3-0. Rollins then battled No. 5 Columbus State to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Rowswell played the full 90 minutes, and made five saves to hold the shutout against Tusculum. The junior net-minder then led a defense that held one of the most potent offenses in Division II to just one goal over 110 minutes. Rowswell made one save against the No. 5 Cougars, and was vital in the back organizing the defense and cutting out dangerous crosses. Rowswell's 17 total saves are fourth in the SSC, while her two clean sheets tie her for the league lead. Rowswell has seen an astounding 420 minutes, and given up just three goals, through the Tars first four contests.
Rollins will return to action on Wednesday, as they close non-conference action against the Webber Warriors. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Barker Family Stadium.
