Tars and Lions Battle to Draw

Tars and Lions Battle to Draw

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 17, 2018) – Rollins and Saint Leo could not separate themselves after 110 minutes of action at Barker Family Stadium.  The Tars and Lions tied 1-1 in a Sunshine State Conference match.  Rollins moves to 6-1-5 overall, while their record sits at 4-1-2 in conference action.  Saint Leo picks up their second draw, as they move to 3-8-2 overall, and 1-5-2 in SSC play.

Rollins goal came off the foot of Sarah Buckley, the junior's fourth of the year, tied for the team lead.  She converted from the penalty spot.  Kelly Rowswell made seven stops playing the full match in net for the Tars.  Laura Hallissey tallied for Saint Leo, while Julia Ortiz made six saves for the Lions.

A long ball over the top fell to the feet of Hallissey in the 18th minute.  She converted a one-on-one chance to give the Lions an early lead.  Rollins would equalize later in the half.  Kathryn O'Brien drew a foul in the box in the 36th minute.  Sarah Buckley stepped up to the spot and blasted her opportunity home.  Both teams would search for the win in the second half, but neither could produce the final touch.  Rollins dominated the first extra frame, but again could not put ball in the back of net.  The ball went back and forth in second extra frame, but neither squad could get a grasp on the final 10 minutes.

The Tars return to action on Saturday, October 20, when they travel to Daytona Beach to take on Embry-Riddle.  Kickoff against the Eagles is set for 6 p.m.
