Tars Lock Up Tournament Home Match with Senior Night Victory

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 23, 2018) – The Tars jumped up to the third spot in the Sunshine State Conference standings following a 2-0 win over Florida Tech on the turf at Barker Family Stadium.  The senior night win solidifies the Tars' SSC Tournament seed, and guarantees a rematch with the Panthers in the first round.  The Tars improve to 7-2-5 overall in 2018, and 5-2-2 in conference action.  Florida Tech falls to 8-8-1, while they sit 5-5 against SSC competition.

The Tars were lead offensively by senior Jill Richards.  She celebrated her final regular season game on Cahall Sandspur Field with a goal and an assist.  The Winter Park native now leads the Tars with 14 points, on four goals and six assists.  Chynna McGirt registered Rollins other tally, giving her four on the season as well.  Kelly Rowswell made seven saves while preserving the clean sheet.  Kiera McCarthy took six shots, and put three on target for the Panthers.  Maria Recuero made six saves in net.

The Tars and Panthers battled to an even first half.  Neither team could convert on the occasional half chance and they went in the locker room tied.  The second half looked to be just as even before the Tars scored twice in quick succession just after the hour mark.  Richards sent a lofting pass over the Panthers' backline that McGirt ran under and gathered before cooly finishing around a charging Recuero.  Then less than two minutes later a Rollins cross was batted down in the box by the hand of a Panther defender.  Richards confidently finished the penalty to double the Rollins lead.  The Tars defense would confidently see lout the final minutes, securing the win.

Rollins concludes the regular season with a match against Eckerd.  The Tars will travel to St. Petersburg on Friday, October 26, to make up a game that was forced to be rescheduled after Hurricane Michael forced a postponement.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
