Rollins Wins Regular Season Finale at Eckerd

Rollins Wins Regular Season Finale at Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (October 26, 2018) – The Tars closed their regular season with a win over the Eckerd Tritons in St. Petersburg.  The win locks the Tars in at the third seed in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.  Rollins enters the post season at 8-2-5 overall, and 6-2-2, in SSC action.  The Tritons end their 2018 campaign at 6-8-1, and 3-7-0 against conference foes.

Rollins was led offensively by Kathryn O'Brien.  The junior scored twice, recapturing the team lead with six goals on the year.  Meghan Mosley picked up her second assist in the Blue in Gold, finding O'Brien for the first goal.  Kelly Rowswell made eight saves for Rollins, holding her sixth shutout of the year.  The Tritons fired 19 shots on the game, led by Stephanie Lipton and Cameron Westmoreland with four a piece.  Casey Winn made two save in net for Eckerd.

The Tars took the lead just ten minutes into the contest.  Olivia Talmage intercepted a Triton pass, and the ball bounced to the feet of Mosley.  The freshman placed a perfectly weighted ball between the Eckerd defenders, allowing O'Brien to run onto the pass in stride.  The West Springfield, Massachusetts native easily slotted the ball by the keeper, and into the net.  The Tars and Tritons would battle back and forth for the remainder of the half and the start of the second period, with Rowswell making acrobatic saves to maintain the Rollins lead.  It would be O'Brien again, who would double the Tars' advantage with less than ten minutes to play.  She would carve her way through the Triton defense and blast a shot into the roof of the goal.  Rollins easily saw out the final moments to enter the SSC Tournament with momentum.

Rollins will now turn their attention to the SSC Tournament.  The Tars enter the postseason as the three seed, and will host Florida Tech at Barker Family Stadium at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 29.
