WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 29, 2018) – The Tars season continues following a thrilling 1-0 win over Florida Tech in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Women's Soccer Tournament. Entering the postseason as the third seed, Rollins improves to 9-2-5 overall on the year, while the sixth seeded Panthers end their 2018 campaign at 8-9-1.
Chynna McGirt netted the lone goal of the match, her fifth of the season. Kathryn O'Brien moved into a tie for the team lead in points, 14, with an assist. Kelly Rowswell held her SSC leading seventh clean sheet of the year by making six saves in 90 minutes in goal for the Tars. Maria Munoz fired six shots for the Panthers, and put three on target. Maria Recuero made four saves for Florida Tech.
Rollins scored early, tallying in the 12th minute. O'Brien gathered a bouncing Jill Richards throw in and tapped the ball over to McGirt. The sophomore hit the ball on her first touch, putting over the keeper's out stretched hands and into the net. Rollins controlled the rest of the half, but could not expand their advantage. In the second 45 minutes Florida Tech turned up the intensity, but the Tars' defense continued to stifle any Panther attacks. Rollins packed the defensive half for the final minutes, and walked away with the 1-0, shutout win.
The Tars will now travel to second seeded Nova Southeastern for the SSC Tournament Semifinals. Kickoff between Rollins and the Sharks is set for Thursday, November 1, at 7 p.m.
