FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (November 1, 2018) – Rollins fell 3-0 against second-seeded Nova Southeastern in the semifinal round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The Tars, who were the third-seed, drop to 9-3-5 overall in the 2018 campaign. The Sharks improve to 13-5-1 and advance to SSC Tournament Finals to where they will take on the Barry Buccaneers.
The Tars took 14 shots, putting six on frame. Jill Richards led Rollins with four attempts, while Olivia Talmage put her two shots on net. Kelly Rowswell manned the goal for Rollins recording six saves in a full 90 minutes of action. Nova Southeastern got a pair of goals from Jemma House and one from Brianna Paige in the contest. Emma Heikkila, Hannah Christophe, and Adanna Edwards all earned an assist for the Sharks. Natalie Robayna played the full 90 minutes in net, making six saves
The match opened as a back and forth battle, with neither team able to find the final bit of quality to grab the lead. With less than five minutes in the half the Sharks scored the opening goal. The Tars failed to clear the ball and a deflection put the ball in the back of the net, giving House the tally. With less than a minute remaining in the period the Sharks doubled their lead. Heikkila would send in free kick which was gathered by Paige who caught Rowswell leaning and placed the ball inside the near post, off the fingers of the Rollins keeper. House scored her second at the hour mark, coming on a glancing header off a cross from Christophe. The Tars increased the pressure for the final 30 minutes, could not find the net, ending their hunt for a SSC Championship crown.
The Tars will now await their NCAA Tournament fate. The selection show will take place on Monday, November 5, at 6:30 p.m.
