PENSACOLA, Fla. (November 9, 2018) – The Tars fell in the opening ropund of the NCAA South Region Tournament, succumbing to Lee by a score of 2-1 in two overtime periods. The Tars end the year at 9-4-5 overall. Lee improves to 14-6-1, and will advance in the bracket to take on top-seeded West Florida.
The Tars were led by goal scorer Kathryn O'Brien. The First Team All-SSC selection's first half tally was her team leading seventh of the year. Kelly Rowswell made six save in the contest, playing the full 108 minutes. The Lady Flames got goals from Avery Engles and Devin Healy, whiloe Kelsey Yoder tallied the only assist of the match. Taylor Green made six saves for Lee.
Devin Healy got the Lady Flame in front just over ten minutes into the contest. The Tars then amplified their pressure and found the equalizer in the 31st. O'Brien sliced through the Flames defense before finishing with her left foot, sending the ball into the net. Both teams had chances in the second period, but neither could capitalize. Rollins has a well executed set piece cleared off the line in the final five minutes. The first overtime period also proved to be a stalemate. Lee got the winner with less than two minutes on the clock in the second overtime period. The Flames earned a free kick which Yoder put in the box. After the ball bounced around Engels got her foot to the ball and put it the roof of the goal, ending the match.
The loss ends the Tars season.
