Tars Overpower Yellow Jackets for First Win

ALLENDALE CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (September 7, 2019) – The Tars picked up their first win of 2019, taking an overtime thriller against Cedarville, 4-3, on Saturday morning.  Rollins lost the lead three times, but each time they were able to rebound and get back in front.  The Tars improve to 1-1-0 on the year, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-0-2, with a pair of overtime losses.

Chynna McGirt led the Tars with five points, on two goals and one assist.  Kathryn O'Brien scored her first goal of the season, and added an assist for three points.  Bailey Tran found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career.  Molly Von Eschenbach and Meghan Mosely each contributed an assist to the Tars' cause.

Hannah Atkinson scored twice for Cedarville, while Taylor Noll recorded the Yellow Jackets remaining score.  Noll also added an assist, as did Bex Velloney and Olivia Hoffman.

Kelly Rowswell started the match for the Tars, making one save in 100 minutes of action.  Elena Beasley made her first appearance in net for Rollins and earned the win, playing the second overtime period.  Allison Garlock made seven saves for Cedarville in a full 102 minutes of play.

O'Brien got the scoring started in the 14th minute, giving the Tars a lead with an individual effort.  Cedarville would square the score just three minutes later with Atkinson's first.  McGirt tallied her first goal of the year 12 minutes before the half, finding the back of the net off assists from Von Eschenbach and O'Brien.

Noll's goal at the hour mark equalized again for the Yellow Jackets; but Tran's tally, less than two minutes later, gave the Tars a 3-2 lead.  McGirt earned her second point of the day with an assist on the score.  The Tars came within seconds of seeing the out the match, but Cedarville found the back of the net in the 90th minute.

After a scoreless first ten minute overtime period, Rollins would finally seal the game with the overtime golden goal.  McGirt picked up her second of the day off an assist from Mosley, clinching the victory.

Notes:

  • O'Brien is now tied for 12th all time in Rollins history with 22 career goals.
  • McGirt moved into a four-way tie for 25th in Rollins with nine career goals.
  • This was the first ever matchup between Rollins and Cedarville; the Tars are now 1-0 against the Yellow Jackets.
