SAINT LEO, Fla. (October 9, 2019) – The No. 11 Tars continued to roll through Sunshine State Conference play with a dominating 3-1 road win over Saint Leo. The Tars improve to 7-2-0 overall, and are unbeaten in SSC play, at 4-0-0. The Lions fall to 5-4-1 overall, and drop their first conference contest, falling to 2-1-0 in the SSC.
Carolina Solis-Deleon recorded the only Lions goal from the penalty spot.
Elena Beasley made two saves, playing the full 90 minutes in net for Rollins. Julia Ortiz made six saves for Saint Leo, while allowing three goals.
O'Brien got the Tars going early, scoring in the sixth minute. Meghan Mosley played a through ball, leaving the senior alone with the keeper, as she easily deposited her shot in the back of the net. Rollins dloubled their lead before halftime. Chynna McGirt fired a shot that was saved by Ortiz, but Rost got her head to the soaring rebound, knocking the ball into the open goal. Rollins took their 2-0 lead into the locker room.
The Lions would cut the Rollins lead in half just after the hour mark. Solis-Deleon converted from the spot, to make the score 2-1. O'Brien would restore the Tars' two goal lead, and ice the game away, with her second, in the 75th minute. The West Springfield, Massachusetts native got on the end on a long pass that was bundled by the Lion back line. The senior found herself alone with the Lion keeper again, and she converted again, from a sharp angle, making the score 3-1.
- Kathryn O'Brien continues her assault on the Rollins record book. She is alone in sixth place all-time in goals scored, with 29, two away from the top-five. She is also sitting on 70 career points, just three behind Chelsea Brady for seventh in Rollins history.
- O'Brien has tallied five goals and 10 points in conference play, both are SSC bests.
- The Tars are now 20-7-2 all-time against the Lions
The Tars remain on the road, as they travel south to face Palm Beach Atlantic. Kickoff against the Sailfish is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 12.
