SAVANNAH, GA. (November 29, 2018) – Sydney Willis set a new school record in the 500-yard freestyle to highlight Rollins day one effort at the SCAD Invitational on Thursday.
The freshman posted a winning time of 4:56.96, an NCAA B cut and currently the fourth fastest time in the nation. She beat the previous school record set earlier in the month by Beatriz Olivieri by two seconds. Olivieri finished eighth in the event with a time of 5:05.35 and Makenzie Grider was 14th in 5:11.87.
The trio joined Shae Knox in the 800 yard free relay, finishing fourth place in 7:47.17. Their time beat the program's oldest school record 7:47.56, set in 2012.
Maya Thompson finished 10th in the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 24.67.
Rollins picked up 84 points on the first day. Wingate University leads the way with 342, followed by Lynn University (130) and Emory (129.5).
The Tars are back in the pool Friday, Nov. 30 for the second of the three-day invitational. Prelims are slated for 9 a.m. with finals scheduled for 5 p.m.
