INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 14, 2019) – Beatriz Olivieri set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle to highlight Rollins women's swimming's second day at the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Olivieri joined fellow freshman Sydney Willis in the pool for the Tars on Thursday.
Willis posted a time of 1:52.75 in the 200-yard freestyle to finish 33rd in qualifying. Olivieri finished second in her heat and was 24th in the prelims, posting a school record of 1:51.39. The time bettered Audrey Kula's record of 1:51.78 set in 2012.
Olivieri started her day with the 100-yard butterfly prelims, stopping the clock at 55.84. Her time was 23rd best in the session and just half a second away from a spot in the finals.
The NCAA Championship continues through Saturday at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. Willis will take part in the 500-yard freestyle and 1650 freestyles coming up at the championship. Olivieri swims her specialty 200-yard butterfly on Friday. Fans can catch the action live at NCAA.com.
