Tars Close Regular Season with Pair of Ranked Foes

No. 19 Rollins (12-7, 5-3 SSC) at No. 24 Tampa (10-7, 4-5 SSC)
No. 19 Rollins (12-7, 5-3 SSC) vs. No. 4 Lynn (16-3, 8-1 SSC)

UT: Thursday, April 12, 2018 | 3:00 p.m. | Tampa, Fla.
Lynn: Saturday, April 14, 2018 | 10:00 a.m. | Bert Martin Tennis Complex

The Tars split their two matches last week.  Rollins opened with a commanding 9-0 win over Sunshine State Conference foe Eckerd, but could not keep the momentum rolling against No. 17 Florida Southern.  The loss to the Mocs snapped a five match winning streak for the Tars.  Rollins will now close the regular season against another pair of top-25 SSC opponents.  Rollins will open the week by traveling west to take on the No. 24 Tampa Spartans, before returning to Winter Park to close the campaign against the No. 4 Lynn Fighting Knights.

Katie Dyson continues to excel in singles action, since being inserted into the Tars lineup.  The sophomore from London, England has registered a 10-1 record, including picking up her first top court victory in the Tars' shutout win over Eckerd last week.  Teresa Kaiser, who is 7-5 on the year in the fourth, fifth, and sixth spots, and Marie Debruyn, who is 12-3 in the fifth and sixth positions, highlight the depth for Rollins.  Fabiana Vitanza has seen all of the first position action for Rollins; the senior picked up her first win against a nationally ranked foe last time out against Florida Southern.

Vitanza and Alexandra Borg continue to pace the Tars in doubles play, as the No. 17 team in the nation.  Overall, Rollins is 33-24 in team play, with their top duo going 10-7. Dyson and Teresa Kaiser have earned an 8-4 mark on the second court.

Tampa fell 7-2 against the No. 4 Fighting Knights last time out.  The Spartans will close their 2018 regular season against the Tars.

The Spartans have combined to register a 57-45 record in singles action throughout the year.  Lilley Nice leads the squad with a 12-4 mark, going 4-3 in the third spot, and 8-1 in the fourth.  Corbin Dorsey is 14-3 on the year, playing out of the fourth and fifth positions.  Vanina Iordanova is 9-8 on the season, including 1-0 in the first position.  Four Spartans have seen top court action, Emily Hewland and Iordanova have each played once, while Caroline Lozo and Maddie Stephens have split the majority of the time.

Dorsey and Lozo form the Spartans top double team; the pair have earned a 6-5 mark in the first position.  Stephens and Iordanova are 10-7 in the second spot, and 5-4 in SSC play.  Hewland and Nice see most of the third court action.

The Fighting Knights recovered, after falling 5-4 to Barry, to cruise by two ranked SSC foes last week.  Lynn defeated No. 26 Nova Southeastern 8-1, and No. 24 Tampa 7-2, as they prepare to close their regular season against the Tars.

Lynn boasts three of the top-40 singles players in the country, according to the ITA.  The team as a whole is 82-31 in singles action this season.  Klaudia Boczova leads the trio at No. 11, the senior is 19-0 in top position singles play this year, and 8-0 against ranked competition.  Diana Bogolii ranks as the No. 36 player, with a 9-8 record in the second, third, and fourth spots.  Only a few spots behind her is Natalie Kallmunzerova, a freshman, who is 7-3 overall, and comes in at No. 38 in the poll.  Eleonora Liga and Frederica Mordegan showcase the Lynn depth, each going 14-4 overall across many positions.

The Fighting Knights also field three top-50 doubles pairs, No. 4, No. 13, and No. 44.  Bogolii and Jan Abaza come in as the No. 4 team.  Boczova and Eliska Petrackova are 11-0 in the first spot, and come in at No. 13.  Bogolii and Bocozova have teamed up eight times, going 7-1 in the first position, good enough for the No. 44 ranking.

The Tars will wait to learn their postseason fate.  The SSC Tournament begins on Thursday, April 19, and stretches through Saturday, April 21, and will take place at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
