MELBOURNE, Fla. (September 16, 2018) – Rollins enjoyed a successful Florida Tech Panther Invitational to open their Fall schedule. The Tars captured a doubles championship and advanced to four of five singles finals, winning two titles.
Katie Dyson and Alexandra Borg highlighted the doubles events for the Tars. The duo captured the Flight A Champiuonship. They shutout Aaron and Selby from Eckerd in the first round, and Weber and Sukkahana 6-2 in the semifinal, all before defeating teammates Aleksandra Durzynski and Teresa Kaiser in the final. Kaitlynn Groves and Marie Debruyn took third in Flight B, while Savanna Fuller and Carlye Goldman took fourth in the bracket. Lauren Lepore and Valentina Serino finished runner-up in the Flight C tournament, while Victoria Schnieder and Paula Cordon advanced to the third-place match.
Katie Dyson took home her second title, winning the Flight A Singles Championship. The Tars' junior cruised with straight set wins in the quarter and semifinals, before beating Priya Sukkahana 6-7 (3), 6-4, 10-3 in the final round. Freshman Valentina Serino took home the Flight D crown with wins over Emily John, of Webber, Maddie Stephens, of Tampa, and Maria Chun, of Florida Tech. Teresa Kaiser finished as the runner-up in Flight B, Savanna Fuller took fourth in Flight C, while Paula Collado Cordon was the runner up in Flight E.
The Tars will now prepare for the ITA South Region Championship, which will take place from Friday, September 21 through Monday, September 24, in Lakeland Florida.
