DAYTONA, BEACH, Fla. (October 28, 2018) – The Tars finished their 2018 fall season with a successful showing at the Juan Varon Wildcat Memorial Invitational, hosted by Bethune Cookman.
Rollins put a pair of teams in the Flight B Doubles Bracket. Teresa Kaiser and Ola Durzynski advanced to the semifinals, while Katie Groves and Marie Debruyn lost their first match, but would win their way to the consolation finals. Carlye Goldman and Savanna Fuller competed in the Flight C Doubles; the duo defeated teams from Flagler, Florida A&M, and Bethune Cookman on their way to the finals.
Alexandra Borg won her first match in the top tier bracket for Rollins. Similarly, Durzynski, Groves, and Kaiser were victorious in their first Flight B, C, and D matches. Groves and Kaiser also won a match in the consolation brackets. Fuller and Goldman, both competed in the Flight E. Fuller won the flight downing opponents from Stetson, and Embry-Riddle, before a marathon final, 7-6, 4-6, 10-3, against Martinez from Flagler. Debruyn and Paula Collado Cordon each advanced to the semifinals of Flight F, rounding the Tars' individual play.
Rollins will now rest for the winter, before starting their spring season on Friday, February 1, against Arkansas-Fort Smith. The match will start at 3:30 p.m.
