Rollins Opens the Year No. 20 in ITA Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. (January 17, 2019) – The Tars will begin their spring season as the No. 20 team in the nation according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.  Rollins also came in at No. 7 in the opening South Region Team ranks.

Fans can see all the rankings here.

The Tars return 10 players, eight of whom saw dual match action during the 2018 campaign.  Katie Dyson is coming off a Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference season, and is ranked No. 30 in the nation at singles play, while Alexandra Borg received a South Region singles ranking.  The two team up to form the region's No. 9 doubles pairing as well.

Defending National Champions, and SSC rival, Barry headline the first poll, with fellow South Region competition West Florida in second.  Columbus State and Hawaii Pacific sit third and fourth, while conference foe Lynn rounds out the top-five.

Barry leads the SSC contingent in the top spot, with Lynn behind them.  Saint Leo and Nova Southeastern sit at No. 7 and No. 8 respectively, with Florida Southern, No. 17, and Rollins, No. 20, as more than half of the team in SSC feature in the poll.

Outside of conference play the Tars face two other preseason ranked teams in 2019.  Rollins will host No. 25 Flagler, and travel to San Francisco to take on No. 6 Academy of Art.

Rollins opens the year on Friday, February 1 when Arkansas-Fort-Smith visits Winter Park.  First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
