Tars Head to Valdosta to Face Blazers

MATCH-UP:
Rollins (1-0, 0-0 SSC) vs. Valdosta State (0-3, 0-0 GSC)

WHERE:
Valdosta, Ga. – VSU Tennis Courts

WHEN:
Saturday, February 16, 2019 – 1:00 p.m.

SET-UP:
The Tars head out on the road for the first time this season, as they travel north to face the Blazers of Valdosta State.  Rollins started their year with a convincing 6-1 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith, and have since gained valuable experience with a pair of exhibition matches.  Valdosta State has struggled against high quality competition so far in 2019, dropping matches to No. 25 Georgia College, No. 8 Nova Southeastern, and No. 3 Columbus State.  The Blazers will be looking for their fourth win against ranked competition when they host the No. 20 Tars, while Rollins will look to stay unbeaten in 2019.

WHO TO WATCH:
Rollins:
Savanna Fuller picked up the first position win against Arkansas-Fort Smith.  Kaitlynn Groves recorded a victory, in her first collegiate action, on the second court.  Rollins rested two key players against the Lions, as the nation's No. 31 singles player, Katie Dyson, and the south region's No. 13 player, Alexandra Borg, have yet to see competitive action in 2019.  The pair of Dyson and Borg form the No. 9 doubles pair in the south, and could potentially see their first official action as a team on Saturday.  Against UAFS Groves and senior Teresa Kaiser occupied the first position, cruising to a 6-3 win in the spot.

Valdosta State:
The Blazers have been outscored 20-1 in their first three contests of 2019.  The lone point was tallied by Daniella Barta in the second position of a match against No. 3 Columbus State.  Barta is 1-1 on the year against nationally ranked foes, picking up the win against the Cougars and pushing the second position player of No. 8 Nova Southeastern to a tiebreak.  Estee Widdershoven has seen the top position singles action in Valdosta State's first three matches.  Widdershoven and Eva Rivoal have played in the top doubles spot for the Blazers, who are still looking for their first pairs victory of 2019.

UP NEXT:
The Tars return home for a battle with Bates.  The Tars and the Bobcats will face off on Wednesday, February 20, with first serve set for 4 p.m.
