WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 26, 2019) – The Tars upset the No. 47 Embry-Riddle Eagles, 5-2, to pick up their first Sunshine State Conference victory of 2019. Rollins improves to 7-5 overall, and 1-2 in SSC action, while head coach Bev Buckley tallies career win number 499. Embry-Riddle falls below the .500 mark at 5-6 overall, 1-4 against conference opposition.
The Tars controlled two of the three doubles matches taking the opening point of the match. Alexandra Borg and Teresa Kaiser got the match started with a 6-1 victory in the first position. Savanna Fuller and Carlye Goldman would match their teammates, clinching the point with a 6-1, third position, win.
Marie Debruyn started the Tars' singles action with a 6-2, 6-4 win in the sixth spot. The junior moves to 9-3 on the year. The Eagles picked up their first point in the fourth singles spot, as the remaining four matches went into their third sets. Durzynski put Rollins on the edge of victory, recovering from a first set loss to take her match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Embry-Riddle would make the score 3-2, and left the contest swaying on the edge of two marathon matches. Borg sealed the Rollins win, earning the fourth point, with an upset win over No. 52 Itxaso Blanco. The junior captured a third set tiebreak to earn the win, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(7). Kaiser padded the Rollins advantage, recovering from first set defeat of her own to take the fifth court match 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Head Coach Bev Buckley will go for career win 500 against the Keiser Seahawks on Saturday, March 30. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
