The Tars head into the Sunshine State Conference Tournament as the seventh seed, coming off a season ending loss to Tampa. Rollins will face regular season SSC Champion, undefeated, and No. 2 Lynn in the first round. Rollins fell to Lynn, 7-0, on the road, in their first SSC match of 2019, on February 23. The tournament will take place at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The Tars will be looking for the upset, as they try to advance, and extend their 2019 campaign.
WHO TO WATCH:
The Tars enter postseason play just above the .500 mark in singles action, at 62-60 overall. Alexandra Borg, Ola Durzynski, and Savanna Fuller have each taken their turn in the first position for Rollins, with Borg securing the spot in recent matches. The junior has tallied two wins over nationally ranked opposition, and a 6-4 SSC record, on her way to an 8-9 overall mark. Marie Debruyn has registered an 15-6 singles record on the season, going 1-0 in the fourth spot, 2-1 in the fifth, and 11-5 in the sixth, to pace the Tars in wins. Senior Teresa Kaiser has enjoyed a solid final campaign in Blue and Gold, ranking second on the squad in wins with a 13-7 mark. Borg and Durzynski have combined to form the Tars' top doubles pair, the duo are 5-1 and ranked No. 50 in the nation. Fuller and Goldman have seen action on both the second and third courts, going 13-7.
The Fighting Knights finished their unblemished regular season with a 6-1 win over No. 43 Embry-Riddle last time out. The Fighting Knights have not allowed more than two points in a match all season, going a combined 95-7 in singles action. Leolia Jeanjean leads the way as the No. 15 player in the nation. The senior is 16-0, playing in the first position. Ulyana Grib is 14-1 overall, and ranks at No. 62 in the newest ITA poll. She has seen action in the first, second and third spots. Eleonora Liga and Natalia Siedliska have also recorded perfect singles seasons. Grib and Jeanjean combine to form the No. 28 doubles pair in the country, going 6-0 in the first position. Jeanjean and Siedliska have also seen top court doubles play, going 12-0. Overall, Lynn has tallied a 48-4 doubles record in 2019.
The winner of the first-round matchup will advance to take on the winner of the match between third-seed Saint Leo and sixth-seeded Tampa. That semifinal contest will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
