Rollins Tested Against No. 13 Wayne State in Season Opener

GOLDEN, Colo. (September 1, 2017) – Squaring up against No. 13 Wayne State in their season opener, the Rollins volleyball team was unable to overcome the Wildcats in a hard fought 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 23-25, 14-25) loss.  Senior Bri Civiero led the way with a double-double of 23 kills and 19 digs as the Tars took on their first of four opponents at the 2017 Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott Oredigger Classic hosted by the Colorado School of Mines.

The Tars, who open their 2017 campaign facing three nationally-ranked opponents in four matches, begin the season with a record of 0-1, while Wayne State opens the year with a mark of 1-0.

Also earning a double-double on the day was sophomore Cassidy Cason with 48 assists and 13 digs.  Shannon McDonough posted nine kills, followed by Madison Jenkins with eight.  Jaime Becker tallied 16 digs, followed by Rachel Fletcher with 11.  Mary Bethany Vincent, Kerra Tirado, and Civiero each earned two blocks.

The Wildcats were led by Jaci Brahmer and Erin Gross with 13 and 12 kills, respectively.  Haley Kaugh led the team in digs with 14, while Bree Ackermann and Alyssa Ballenger each earned 13 digs.  Dishing out a team high 37 assists was Megan Gebhardt, while Brahmer earned a blistering 11 blocks.


  • Senior Bri Civiero notched a double-double in the Tars' first match of the season, posting 23 kills and 19 digs to lead the team.
  • Sophomore Cassidy Cason led the team in assists with 48 and earned a double-double as she added 13 digs.
  • It was a hard-fought battle from the beginning, with the match tied on 20 different occasions, while seeing a total of 12 different lead changes.  Set one proved to be a true test as the score was tied eight times and saw the lead change hands on six different occasions.
