SET UP:
With six matches remaining on their 2018 schedule, including four straight home games, the Rollins volleyball team is set to host 17th-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic and Nova Southeastern this weekend in Sunshine State Conference action.  The Tars open up with a Friday night match-up against the nationally-ranked Sailfish at 7 p.m. in Warden Arena, followed by a 4 p.m. contest against Nova Southeastern.  Live coverage is available with live stats on TarsStats.com as well as with video on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSportsLive.com.

WHO TO WATCH:
Rollins:
Coming off of a 3-0 (26-28, 12-25, 19-25) loss to fourth-ranked Tampa on Tuesday night in Warden Arena, the Tars are ready to welcome their second-straight nationally-ranked team when they host No. 17 PBA on Friday evening, followed by a conference tilt against Nova Southeastern on Saturday.  The Tars enter into the weekend with a record of 4-20 and 1-13 in SSC play, and are riding a three game skid.  As a team, Rollins has played in 24 matches and 78 sets, and have earned 713 kills, averaging 9.14 per set.  The Tars are also averaging 8.58 assists per set, 1.81 blocks per set, 1.27 aces per set, and 13.47 digs per set.  Sam Schlesman and Leslie Seda boat a team best 129 kills so far this season, with Schlesman averaging 1.68 per set, and Seda following close behind with 1.65 kills per set.  Freshman Rebecca Kuehn has amassed 353 assists, averaging 5.19, while sophomore Sarah Konemann has earned 234, for an average of 4.50 assists per set.  Senior Rachel Fletcher leads the squad in aces, having fired off 24 in 78 sets played for an average of 0.31 per set.  Fletcher also leads the team in digs with 267, while freshman Jessika Linnemeyer has dug out 205.  Kerra Tirado has put up a team best 75 total blocks, including five solo blocks and 70 assisted, for an average of 1.00 block per set.  Schlesman has earned a team best six solo blocks, and has added 48 block assists for a team second best 54 on the season.  Candace Doxey matches Tirado with five solo blocks, and has contributed 47 block assists for 52 in her freshman campaign.

No. 17 Palm Beach Atlantic:
With a record of 23-3, and 12-3 in SSC action, the 17th-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish make the trip to Winter Park on Friday riding a nine-game winning streak.  The Sailfish are coming off of a 3-2 victory over No. 24 Barry on Tuesday evening in Miami Shores that saw PBA trade blows with the Bucs to win 21-25, 25-22, 19-25, 26-24, 15-11.  The Sailfish are currently averaging 14.1 kills per set, 13.1 assists per set, 1.5 aces per set, 16.9 digs per set, and 2.6 blocks her pet.  In 26 matches and 96 total sets played, Amber Rowoldt leads the team with 316 kills, averaging 3.40 per set.  Raegan Grooms follows with 293 kills, while Maddie Span and Jennie Anderson and earned 189 and 188, respectively.  Molly Burkhardt leads the team as the primary setter, having amassed 956 assists on the season, averaging 9.96 per set.  Grooms leads the Sailfish in aces with 29, while Lilly Turner and Ally Smith have notched 25 and 22 aces each.  As a team, the Sailfish have tallied 1627 digs on the season, led by Turner with 456, while Burkhardt has earned 313.  Turner averages 4.75 digs per set.  At the net, Maddie Span and Anderson are impenetrable, with Span earning 120 total blocks (14 solo blocks and 106 block assists), while Anderson has amassed 112 total blocks (seven solo blocks and 105 block assists).

Nova Southeastern:
Entering into the weekend with a record of 5-19, and 3-11 in SSC play, the Nova Southeastern Sharks are currently riding a six game losing streak, including three straight losses at the 2018 South Region Crossover.  The Sharks will square up against fourth-ranked Tampa on Friday, before making the short trek east on I-4 to take on the Tars in Winter Park on Saturday.  With 24 matches under their belts, and 82 total sets played, NSU is averaging 11.5 kills per set, 10.8 assists per set, 1.4 aces per set, 17.3 digs per set, and 1.5 blocks per set.  Denvyr Tyler-Palmer leads the way for the Sharks with 257 kills, averaging 3.47 per set.  Leslie Atherton has earned 137, while Kim Blasko has tallied 135 kills on the season.  Blasko has notched a team best 492 assists, and averages 6.0 assists per set, while Caylee Cox has dished out 272 assists of her own.  Megan Burns has been unstoppable on the serve, earning 36 aces so far this season.  Burns also leads the team in digs with 451, averaging 5.50 per set, while Tyler-Palmer has dug out 246. In blocks, Atherton holds onto a team high 49 total, with six solo blocks and 43 block assists.  Maddie Uilk leads the team in solo blocks with eight, and is second on the team with 44 total blocks so far this season.

NOTES:

  • The last time Rollins and PBA matched-up was on September 22, 2018, when the Sailfish were ranked third on the AVCA DII Poll.  The Tars fell in three (11-25, 9-15, 14-25).
  • The Tars' last victory over PBA was on Tuesday, September 24, 2013.  Rollins defeated PBA by a score of 3-2 (27-29, 27-25, 28-26, 25-14, 15-12).
  • Since 2006, the Tars are 10-11 against PBA in the program series.  The Sailfish have won the last 10 match-ups against the Tars.
  • In their last match-up with Nova Southeastern, the Tars found themselves at the bottom end of a 3-0 final score, falling to the Sharks 13-25, 22-25, 20-25.
  • Rollins' last win over Nova Southeastern was on Saturday, October 7.  The Tars defeated the Sharks in straight sets, (25-20, 28-26, 25-21) in Rick Case Arena in Ft. Lauderdale.
  • Rollins leads the all-time series against the Sharks, 24-15. 

NEXT:
The Tars remain at home for their next two games, and close out their home schedule, when they welcome Lynn University and Barry University to Warden Arena on Friday, November 2, and Saturday, November 3. Game times against the SSC opponents are set for 7 p.m. on Friday against the Fighting Knights, and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday against the Buccaneers following a Senior Day Celebration to honor the senior class of Kerra Tirado, Rachel Fletcher, and Sam Schlesman.
