Tars Close out 2018 Campaign with Road Loss to Saint Leo

Rollins Puts Up a Fight in Set Three, but Succumbs to Lions in Straight Sets


ST. LEO, Fla. (November 10, 2018) –  The Rollins volleyball team put up a fight in the third set, leading by a score of 17-16 late in the set, but the Tars were unable to thwart a staunch Saint Leo squad, falling to the Lions by a score of 3-0 (15-25, 11-25, 22-25) on Saturday evening in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

The Tars wrap up their 2018 campaign with a record of 4-26 and 1-19 in Sunshine State Conference action, while the Lions conclude their regular season slate with a record of 17-14, and 12-8 in SSC play, with the hopes of advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Rollins saw a strong defensive output on the evening, with the team earning 14 block assists for a total of 7.0 blocks on the night as a squad.  Senior Sam Schlesman led the way with four block assists, while freshman Candance Doxey put up three block assists of her own. Rachel Fletcher, Leslie Seda, and Kerra Tirado each earned two block assists on the night, while Adriane Griffith was credited for one block assist of her own.  Fletcher led the team with seven kills on the night while adding five digs and her two blocks.  Seda earned six kills to her two blocks, while Schlesman and Doxey earned four kills apiece.  Tirado hit .750 on the evening, earning three kills on four total attacks.  Sophomore Sarah Konemann handed out a team best 14 assists on the evening.  The Tars' lone service ace came from freshman Rebecca Kuehn, while classmate Jessika Linnemeyer earned a team best 14 digs.

Three Lions earned 10 kills apiece, as Victoria Omoregie, Ashley Quero, and Dallas Jasper, with Jasper hitting .412 on the night with a kill percentage of .588.  Cassandra Kamien dished out a match best 40 assists, earning 40 of the Lions' 46 total on the evening.  Reggie Van Devender earned a game high 15 digs, followed by Fabiola Rosado with nine, and Kamien with eight.  At the net, the Lions put up 7.0 blocks as a team, with eight block assists and three solo blocks.  Annabella Arcari led the team with four blocks on the day with one solo block and three block assists, while Omoregie matched Arcari in block assists with three of her own.

NOTES:

  • Last time out against the Lions, Rollins fell in straight sets (16-25, 12-25, 21-25) in Warden Arena.
  • The Tars' last victory over Saint Leo was back on Friday, October 23, 2015, when Rollins bested the Lions by a score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-23) in Warden Arena.
  • Since 2006, the Tars and Lions have matched up 25 times, with the Tars trailing the series 10-15.
