Tars Travel to Northeast for Hoffman Memorial Tournament

Rollins began their season with a pair of victories last weekend, and will enter their second tournament of the season starting on Friday. The Tars travel to Waltham, Massachusetts to play in the Hoffman Memorial Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Bentley University. They have two games on Friday against Molloy and Bentley, followed by two more on Saturday against East Stroudsburg and Caldwell.


Rollins: The Tars started their season with two sweeps last Saturday against Southern Wesleyan and Shorter. They finished their weekend 2-2. Freshman Alexis Yeager earned the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week award after recording 18 total blocks. Transfer Rachel Reeve also had a huge weekend, tallying 109 assists. Five different Tars totaled at least 20 kills, led by Harper Smith's 28. Rollins is averaging 11.62 kills per set in the early season, which is well ahead of their mark of nine per set from last year.       

Molloy: The Lions had a strong start to their season last week, going 12-1 in thirteen sets en route to a 4-0 record. Kacey Affrunti was awarded the East Coast Conference Player of the Week award after totaling 52 kills at a .408 clip, plus 12 aces, and seven blocks. Teammate Sophia Smith was tabbed the Conference Setter of the Week as she dished out 160 assists.

Bentley: The Falcons opened their season with two wins and two losses at the Cal State San Marcos Cougar Classic. Kirsten Segaline led the team with 39 kills, and also had two double-doubles. Dani Milner was also an effective attacker, recording 37 kills in only eight sets. Xio Lopp was the top assister with 93, while Shannon Ngo led the team in blocks with eight.

East Stroudsburg: The Warriors spent last weekend in South Florida, going 2-2 in the Barry Invitational. Sarah Smith led the way offensively with 43 kills on 155 attempts, good for a .148 percentage. Kayla Lugo was the top setter, with 74. Jessica Irwin tallied 11 service aces, and Jasmine Williams finished her weekend with 18 blocks.

Caldwell: The Cougars have started their season with a 1-2 record last week. Elise Smith, the reigning conference freshman of the year, has started strong with 35 kills at a .209 clip. Samantha Ashton set the table with 75 assists. Caldwell is averaging 9.82 kills, 9.09 assists, 1.55 service aces, 14 digs, and 1.09 blocks per set. 


  • Head Coach Mika Robinson enters her fourth season with the Tars, and 12th overall as a head coach. Robinson has a record of 196-153.
  • This will be the 1st matchup between Rollins and Molloy.
  • This will be the 5th matchup between Rollins and Bentley. Rollins leads the all-time series 4-1.
  • This will be the 1st  matchup between Rollins and East Stroudsburg.
  • This will be the 1st  matchup between Rollins and Caldwell.

The Tars hit the road on Tuesday for a matchup with conference rival Florida Tech, before hosting Embry-Riddle on Friday, September 20th in the first home game of the season.
