Set Up

Rollins hosted Eckerd and Florida Southern last week, and fell to both teams. Their record now stands at 4-10 on the year, 1-5 in SSC play. The Tars are currently tied for 8th place in the conference.

Team Previews

Rollins: The Tars dropped both of their matches last week, 3-1. Against Eckerd, Rollins had one of their best sets of the season, totaling 14 kills at .406 with only one error. For the match, they hit .239 as a team. The Tars were short-handed against Florida Southern on Saturday, missing lead attacker Harper Smith and top blocker Alexis Yeager due to injury. Marlee Johnson and Candace Doxey each stepped up, and will look to continue to take advantage of their playing time once again this week. Freshman Riley Spurlin ranks second on the team in kills with 116, and has played well as of late. Rachel Reeve sits 6th in the conference with 397 assists, while freshman Charlie Durbin is top 10 in the conference in digs.

Palm Beach Atlantic: The Sailfish are in the middle of the SSC standings with an 8-7 overall record and 3-4 mark in conference. They have won their last two matches against Florida Tech (3-1) and Barry (3-1). They have the most kills in the conference with 762, thanks in large part to the three-headed monster that is Sam Wolf, Amber Rowoldt, and Jazz Schmidt, who each have more than 150 kills on the year. Wolf is second in conference with 193 kills overall. The Sailfish are susceptible to an aggressive opponent though, as they allow opponents to strike at a .223 percentage, which is second worst in the conference.

Barry: The Buccaneers are sitting third in conference with a 10-5, 5-2 SSC record. They tested themselves early on, facing four ranked opponents in their first ten matches. They are also undefeated at home this season (7-0). Barry is stout defensively as they have limited opponents to a .162 attack percentage, and have 263 blocks on the season which leads the conference by a wide margin. In fact, their 2.60 blocks per set is the 4th highest mark in the entire country. Anastasiia Samokhvalova leads the defensive front with 81 total blocks on the year. The Bucs have five additional players who have at least 20 blocks this season. Megi Buviniv has 183 kills on the year, which ranks third in the SSC.

Robinson's Ramblings

"We were really pleased with how the team stepped up in the first three sets versus Florida Southern with two players who have started most of the season out for the match. Unfortunately, our overall serving and serve receive game let us down in set four. With the youth of our team, we have talked all year about how this season will be a process, and our goal has always been to play our best volleyball at the end of the season. That has not changed, and we will continue to take each game one at a time and each point one at a time."

Notes

  • Head Coach Mika Robinson enters her fourth season with the Tars, and 12th overall as a head coach. Robinson has a record of 198-161.
  • This will be the 32nd matchup between Rollins and Palm Beach Atlantic.
  • This will be the 63rd matchup between Rollins and Barry

Down the Road

The Tars, along with the rest of the Sunshine State Conference, will travel to Hoover, Alabama for the Gulf South/Sunshine State crossover. Each SSC team will face two GSC teams during the weekend of October 18-19.
