Volleyball Announces Four Signees

WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 19, 2019) - Head coach Mika Robinson has announced the signing of four incoming freshman for the 2020 season. The Tars would like to welcome Emma Begley (Conway HS/Conway, AR), Ashley Russell (Northside Christian/St. Petersburg, FL), Milla Sherman (Petoskey HS/Boyne City, MI), and Abbie Tutor (St. Cloud HS/St. Cloud, FL). "We are really excited to add these players to the RCVB family," said Robinson. "All of them are tremendous athletes, but, more importantly, they are a great fit with our team culture and core values."

Begley is a standout middle blocker for the Conway Wampus Cats, helping the team to 49 wins over the past two seasons. The Cats took the Arkansas 6A state title in 2018, and finished in the state quarterfinals this fall.  Begley has received All-Conference recognition, and was also named to the state playoff All-Tournament team. She also plays for the 501 Volley Club team. She plans on majoring in chemistry once she arrives on campus.

From Coach Robinson:  "Emma is both an incredibly dynamic athlete and a fierce competitor. She has the ability to make an immediate impact in multiple positions, but her lateral speed and vertical make her a natural in the middle blocker position."

Russell is an in-state recruit for the 2020 class, coming from St. Petersburg. Russell etched her name into the Mustang record books as a setter, posting the top career marks for both assists and aces. She helped Northside Christian to a regional quarterfinal berth in the Florida 3A state playoffs this fall. Russell is a multi-sport athlete for the Mustangs, and has placed in the state track and field championships in the high jump.

From Coach Robinson:  "Ashley is the type of player who makes everyone around her better. She is very gifted athletically, and her enthusiasm and energy are truly contagious. She is capable of playing multiple positions, but her quick feet and ability to lead make her a tremendous setter."

Sherman will travel from Boyne City, Michigan to join the Tars. In the past three years at Petoskey High, Sherman has earned All-Conference, All-Region, and All-Academic honors for her performance. She also plays at the club level for Five1 Athletics. Milla plans on majoring in international relations when she arrives on campus next year.

From Coach Robinson: "Milla is a dynamic six rotation outside hitter who still has a really big ceiling. Like the others in this class, she is a fierce competitor and will bring a level of competition that will make us better immediately."

Tutor has been a force for the St. Cloud Bulldogs in her career, earning All-Conference recognition three times. The middle blocker/outside hitter posted more than 200 kills this past season while helping the Bulldogs to a 21-5 record and one set shy of the Florida 6A Final Four. Tutor played at the club level for the St Cloud Volleyball Club, and plans on majoring in psychology or sociology at Rollins.

From Coach Robinson: "Abbie is a tremendous athlete with a huge ceiling. She could play any front row position due to her blocking and hitting skills, but she is also skilled in passing and floor defense. Fans are going to really enjoy watching her develop throughout her career in a Rollins jersey."
